Supporting Lung Cancer Care: BMSF Director's Visit to Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital and Chest MDT
BMSF Director Ms. Semondile Christable visited the chest MDT established under the Multinational Lung Cancer and Diagnosis Project at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital on July 2, 2024. She conveyed a message of continued support from BMSF for the lung cancer project. Additionally, she held a brief meeting with the hospital management and the physicians' team involved in the project. The Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) comprises healthcare professionals specializing in treating and supporting people with lung cancer. The overarching aims of the Lung Cancer MDT (LC-MDT) are to ensure that all lung cancer patients experience safe, quality care; expedited diagnosis; correct treatment; an appropriate environment; respect for their autonomy and privacy; timely care from a senior doctor within a dedicated multidisciplinary team; improved communication; and a better patient experience. The team meets regularly to discuss lung cancer cases, providing a forum under the auspices of TASH that promotes open communication among clinicians across various healthcare professions. This facilitates best practice standards in the formulation, development, and implementation of individualized treatment plans for lung cancer patients at TASH. The complexity of lung cancer treatment is rapidly increasing, necessitating multidisciplinary approaches to improve outcomes. The MDT decides on therapeutic plans for patients and has provided case reviews for hundreds of patients since the first patient case review meeting on February 1, 2022 G.C., without service interruption.
